Pulling a Tuttle
One of the most hilarious, yet terrifying stories I’ve read in recent times is the tale of Jerry Taylor, City Manager of Tuttle, Oklahoma, threatening Linux Operating System maker CentOS with FBI action after he found his City web-site off-line one morning with a bog standard Web Server holding page.
I’ll leave you to find out the details on The Register and CentOS web-pages themselves. If you’re anything like me you’ll laugh out loud at the arrogance and stupidity of the guy.
Working in IT Support, you come across bullies like this fairly frequently. The ethos of “if I start shouting straight away, it’ll get fixed quicker” can be commonplace. Of course, the upshot of all this is that as well as becoming a laughing stock, System Admins and IT Support Staff everywhere are now referring to such foolish end-user incidents as “Tuttles”.
The attitude of the CentOS guys was amazing in the face of overwhelming arrogance and stupidity! Bravo Gents!
