I stumbled across a U3 “Data Traveller” USB KeyDisk whilst browsing a supplier catalogue today.
I use a standard 1GB USB Keydisk myself to transport files between sites but the U3 standard for Keydisks looks interesting. In a nutshell, it allows applications that have been adapted by developers to run directly from your USB Keydisk without leaving a trace of it’s existence behind afterwards. The U3 web-site demo shows a portable version of Mozilla Firefox, complete with all your own bookmarks, Outlook, WinAMP and others. The ability to run Outlook (complete with all my contacts, task lists and calendar) securely whilst sat in an Internet Cafe alone is enough to interest me.
I’m intrigued! Just ordered myself a Kingston 1GB U3 Keydisk (you can never have enough keydisks, right?) to see if it’s as useful as it appears it may be.
