My Friday Favourite this week is FixMyStreet – Report, view or discuss local problems.
What is it?
FixMyStreet is a website that enables you to quickly report local problems to the local authorities.
How can it help me?
I have asked the question before “Are you a Good Digital Citizen?“. Being a good digital citizen doesn’t just apply to the online world though.
I regularly go for walks around my local area and often see something that’s wrong — graffiti, fly tipping, broken paving slabs, or faulty street lighting.
Traditionally, we’d be irritated by these problems but know that reporting the issue to the local council may be more trouble than it seems worth.
FixMyStreet allows you to quickly and easily report those issues to your local authority for them to take action.
To report a problem, you simply
- Enter a nearby UK postcode, or street name and area (or let the app find your location)
- Pinpoint the location of the problem on a map of the area
- Enter details of the problem
- FixMyStreet sends the report to the local council on your behalf
In my experience, the local councils respond to these issues quickly. You can ask FixMyStreet to check in with you so that you can provide an update on the issue too.

FixMyStreet is free to use and is kept running through donations. You can donate to FixMyStreet here.

Rutland County Council delete fix my streets without sorting out the problem. I did 3 reports on give way signs and lines, drivers regularly go over give way without slowing or stopping at cross roads in whissendine. Someone has just deleted my posts without any action to improve the cross road signs.
