Present Pal – Deliver a Confident Presentation

Every Friday I share one of my favourite finds of the week — a website, tool or an app that has impressed me.

My Friday Favourite this week is Present Pal – Deliver a More Prepared and Confident Presentation.

What is it?

Present Pal is presentation support software that works alongside Microsoft Powerpoint.

How can it help me?

Surveys about fears commonly show the fear of public speaking at the top of that list — often even higher than our fear of death!

As a regular public speaker myself, I can empathise. To this day, I still get extremely nervous about presenting to an audience. I know I’m not alone with this anxiety.

My friend Alan Matthews has written on how to develop your confidence, but even confident people can become nervous presenting.

Nearly all of us have to do some form of presenting in our lifetime. For instance, 93% of students have to present as part of their course.

This is where Present Pal can help.

Present Pal is an app created by Estendio that aims you in delivering your presentation, by delivering reminders and notes — digital flashcards — via your iPad or Smartphone.

Present Pal fully integrates with Microsoft Powerpoint, so you can control your presentation slides, and also see notes to help you with your presentation. These notes can also include pop-up bubbles where speakers can store additional information.

Think of Present Pal as an enhanced version of the speaker notes that Microsoft Powerpoint offers.

Present Pal was created by a student, Chris Hughes. Chris is dyslexic and struggled with delivering presentations as part of his business degree at the University of Strathclyde.

Chris chatted to dyslexia experts and went on to come up with Present Pal, which also offers features including colour overlays to reduce visual stress and good practices such as only including 3-5 bullet points for each slide so that the working memory isn’t overloaded.

Present Pal has been approved for both DSA and Access to Work. The app is recommended for students/workers who have dyslexia, ADHD, autism, anxiety or visual impairments.

How much does it cost?

Present Pal is free to use for 30-days.

A Present Pal license then costs £4.99/month, £42 per year, or you can buy a lifetime license for £115.
